The company

Our client is a listed Chinese group specialised in superalloy investment casting for gas turbines and aero engines. It develops its own master alloys and powders and casts them into finished blades and vanes, with two R&D centres, two manufacturing sites and about 400 people, 120 of them engineers.

Its portfolio counts more than 150 equiaxed and 200 SX/DS products, from 50 mm to 800 mm in length and from single to five-airfoil vane segments, in over 30 alloys including K452, N5 and CMSX-4. The products are used in 11 gas turbine models from 2 MW to 300 MW. The company is NADCAP accredited and supplies Chinese and international gas turbine OEMs.

The role

You will bring new parts and new alloys into production. You will turn customer drawings into castable, qualified blades and vanes, with equiaxed programmes as the priority, and define the process windows for new nickel- and cobalt-based superalloys.

What you will do

  • Review customer drawings and specifications and define the casting approach for new blades and vanes
  • Design the casting system: gating, feeding, ceramic cores and wax tooling, using casting simulation where useful
  • Run first articles and trial castings, and define achievable tolerances and dimensional control
  • Validate casting process windows for new nickel- and cobalt-based superalloys and document them in validation reports
  • Optimise heat treatment parameters to improve yield and fatigue life
  • Set NDT and dimensional acceptance criteria with quality, and support customer qualification
  • Hand stable processes over to production and the process engineering team

What you bring

  • Degree in Metallurgical, Materials, Foundry or Mechanical Engineering
  • At least 5 years in the development of superalloy investment cast parts, in a foundry or at a gas turbine or aero engine OEM
  • Experience taking new parts from drawing to first article and qualification
  • Ability to read casting drawings and work with tight tolerances and dimensional control
  • Knowledge of NDT methods (X-ray, FPI, ultrasonic) and their acceptance criteria
  • Familiarity with ISO, ASTM or AMS standards
  • Casting simulation (ProCAST or similar), ceramic core design or hollow cooled blades are a plus
  • Fluent English

What the client offers

  • A furnished apartment near the company, with access to the company dormitory for lunch breaks and late work
  • A company car for personal use
  • Four return flights to your home country each year
  • Full support with the work visa and relocation formalities
  • A wide portfolio of new parts and in-house alloys to work on
  • A site close to the sea, with easy access to the coast and to Shenzhen's food districts
