THE ROLE

You will be working in a multi-disciplinary group, where people with different backgrounds collaborate, each with their own expertise, to support IIT research activity.

The ICT Directorate manages the digital infrastructure of IIT and is coordinated by Stefano Bencetti.

Within the team, your main responsibilities will be:

  • Administer, maintain and evolve Linux-based infrastructure services supporting IIT research and administrative activities, both on-premises and in cloud or hybrid-cloud environments
  • Design, build and maintain containerized solutions using Docker, including container images, runtime configuration, deployment patterns and operational documentation
  • Lead the planning and coordination of containerization initiatives, collaborating with internal stakeholders to define priorities, assess dependencies, manage technical roadmaps and identify sustainable deployment models and operational requirements.
  • Contribute to the planning and governance of cloud resources and container-related services, balancing business priorities, operational constraints and ICT standards while ensuring reliability, scalability and security.
  • Participate in troubleshooting, monitoring, incident management and continuous improvement activities for infrastructure platforms, documenting procedures and technical configurations

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • A master’s or bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology or a similar discipline or, alternatively, at least 5 years of relevant professional experience in a comparable role.
  • Proven experience in managing technical activities across multiple stakeholders, setting priorities, coordinating concurrent initiatives and supporting project execution in complex organizational environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate business and research needs into actionable technical plans, balancing workload, risks, dependencies and delivery commitments.
  • Solid knowledge of container technologies, with hands-on experience in Docker, container image creation and dockerization of applications and services
  • Good understanding of cloud or hybrid-cloud environments, including compute services, networking, storage and deployment of containerized workloads
  • Familiarity with virtualization, networking fundamentals, scripting and automation in Linux environments
  • Good knowledge of the English language
  • Familiarity with the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong focus on stakeholder needs and expectations

ADDITIONAL SKILLS

  • Experience in leading technical workstreams, coordinating activities across multiple teams and contributing to project planning and prioritization processes.
  • Experience in Kubernetes or similar container orchestration platforms, preferably in production or hybrid cloud contexts
  • Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code and configuration management tools, such as Terraform, Ansible or equivalent solutions
  • Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, container registries, image lifecycle management and basic DevOps practices
  • Familiarity with monitoring, logging and observability tools, such as Prometheus, Grafana, ELK/OpenSearch or equivalent platforms
  • Experience applying any of these skills in High-Performance Computing (HPC) or research environments will be considered a particular asset.
  • Awareness of IT security principles applied to Linux systems, container images, secrets management and cloud resources
  • Ability to work in a challenging and international environment
  • Capacity to work autonomously and collaboratively in a highly interdisciplinary environment
  • Possess analytical reasoning skills and a growth mindset

COMPENSATION PACKAGE

  • A yearly gross salary ranging between 35.000,00 and 45.000, euro, which may include a bonus option depending on your role and contract
  • Private health care coverage depending on your role and contract
  • Two days of teleworking per week and flexible working hours are available for certain roles
