THE ROLE

You will be working in a multi-disciplinary group, where people with different backgrounds collaborate, each with their own expertise, to support IIT research activity.

The ICT Directorate manages the digital infrastructure of IIT and is coordinated by Stefano Bencetti.

Within the team, your main responsibilities will be:

  • Administer, maintain and evolve monitoring services for IIT infrastructure, covering networks, Linux servers, virtual machines, applications and cloud-based services
  • Configure and manage monitoring, including hosts, templates, triggers, dashboards, alerting logic and operational documentation
  • Analyse monitoring events, performance indicators and anomalies, supporting troubleshooting activities and proposing improvements to service reliability and observability
  • Collaborate with infrastructure and security teams to identify connectivity issues and support firewall-related interventions, including the opening, closing or adjustment of communication channels towards cloud platforms and internal servers
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of monitoring coverage, incident detection, escalation procedures and technical documentation for infrastructure operations

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • A master’s or bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology or a similar discipline or, alternatively, at least 3 years of relevant professional experience in Linux system administration and infrastructure operations
  • Strong hands-on experience for end-to-end monitoring of networks, servers, virtual machines, applications and cloud services
  • Good knowledge of Linux operating systems, scripting and automation for monitoring, troubleshooting and operational support activities
  • Proven knowledge of infrastructure components, including physical and virtual servers, network devices, firewall rules, application services and cloud resources
  • Good knowledge of the English language
  • Familiarity with the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong focus on stakeholder needs and expectations, with a service-oriented and collaborative approach

ADDITIONAL SKILLS

  • Advanced knowledge of Zabbix, including template management, triggers, alerting rules, dashboards, discovery mechanisms and integration with operational processes
  • Experience with network monitoring protocols and technologies, such as SNMP, ICMP, agent-based monitoring, log collection and synthetic checks
  • Knowledge of virtualization platforms and cloud services monitoring, including performance, availability and capacity indicators
  • Understanding of TCP/IP networking, routing, DNS, VPN, proxy services, common security principles applied to infrastructure operations and firewall policies
  • Experience applying any of these skills in High-Performance Computing (HPC) or research environments will be considered a particular asset.
  • Ability to work in a challenging and international environment
  • Capacity to work autonomously and collaboratively in a highly interdisciplinary environment
  • Possess analytical reasoning skills and a growth mindset

COMPENSATION PACKAGE

  • A yearly gross salary ranging between 30.000,00 and 37.000,00 euro, which may include a bonus option depending on your role and contract
  • Private health care coverage depending on your role and contract
  • Two days of teleworking per week and flexible working hours are available for certain roles
