Purpose of the position: The Cargo Superintendent is responsible for overseeing and managing all marine cargo operations, including the safe reception, storage, and offloading of crude oil. This role directs the operation and maintenance of cargo and ballast systems, monitors tank conditions, coordinates first-line maintenance in the pumproom, and ensures full compliance with international maritime regulations and safety standards and reports to Offshore Installation Manager

 

How can you support us? Here below your responsibilities:

  • Supervise the operation of cargo heating coils, inert gas systems (IGS), ballast valves, cargo pumps, and Crude Oil Washing (COW) machinery.
  • Coordinate and audit tank records, including water/oil interfaces, temperature controls, and the safe sampling of crude oil.
  • Oversee all crude oil reception, storage, and offloading operations, ensuring the structural and functional integrity of all associated equipment.
  • Manage and execute first-line maintenance in the pumproom, directly coordinating the activities of mechanics and welders assigned to the area.
  • Ensure the continuous operational readiness and maintenance of cargo and ballast equipment, including ullage gauges, inert gas valves, and related systems.

 

What are we looking for?

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Nautical Sciences (Navigation/Marine Engineering), Engineering, or equivalent maritime qualifications.

Experience: Minimum of 10 to 12 years of proven experience in an Offshore environment (FPSOs or Large Crude Carriers/VLCCs), showing a solid career progression up to a Superintendent level.

Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory for safety, international maritime reporting, and daily operational communication.

Technical Skills: Mastery of tandem offloading, dynamic positioning vessel interactions, and emergency shutdown (ESD) systems during crude transfers.

Expert execution of COW procedures, tank washing management, and gas-freeing operations for tank entry.

Advanced control of IGS pressure, oxygen content monitoring, and high-velocity vent valve testing.

Must hold a valid STCW Certificate of Competency (CoC) as Master Mariner, Chief Officer, or Chief Engineer (Class 1).

IT Skills: Expert proficiency in specialized marine loading software (e.g., Loadmaster, Kongsberg K-Gauge, or equivalent) for stress and stability monitoring.

Advanced utilization of Distributed Control Systems (DCS) for remote valve manipulation and cargo pump speed governance.

Strong capability in tracking inventory, generating work orders, and archiving pumproom maintenance history in SAP PM, Maximo, or AMOS.

 

What else should you know? All applicants must reside in Angola and possess a valid residence card, as Saipem is unable to offer sponsorships.
