MaGroup

Controller

MAGROUP CANADA (CFN Precision (Vaughan, ON) & Tecnickrome Aeronautique (Montreal, QC) - Full-Time, Permanent | Based in Vaughan, Ontario | Periodic travel to Montreal

About the Opportunity We are two growing aerospace manufacturing companies — CFN Precision, a precision machining and manufacturing business in Vaughan, Ontario, and Tecnickrome Aeronautique, a specialist in aerospace surface treatment and processing in Montreal, Quebec — both part of the MA Group S.p.A. family of companies. We are seeking a hands-on Controller to lead the finance function across both Canadian operations. This is a career-defining role for a driven finance professional. The successful candidate will join a small, close-knit finance team where they will touch every aspect of accounting and finance in a manufacturing environment, work directly with ownership and operational leadership, and be developed with the clear intent of assuming a CFO Canada role within approximately five years.

Position Summary Reporting directly to the CFO, the Controller is responsible for the full spectrum of accounting and financial management for both entities and will assist the CFO in all aspects of the finance mandate. Because the finance group is small, this is a genuinely hands-on role: the Controller will prepare as well as review, roll up their sleeves on month-end, and build strong working relationships across operations, supply chain, quality, sales, and HR. Success in this role depends as much on interpersonal skill and cross-departmental collaboration as it does on technical accounting ability.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting & Financial Reporting

  • Own the full-cycle accounting function for both entities, including general ledger, month-end and year-end close, account reconciliations, and consolidation.
  • Prepare timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements under both ASPE and IFRS — including proper application of IFRS 15 (Revenue from Contracts with Customers) and IFRS 16 (Leases) for group reporting — with clear variance analysis and commentary for leadership.
  • Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll oversight, and intercompany transactions and reconciliations across the Ontario and Quebec entities and other MA Group S.p.A. companies.
  • Lead the annual external audit/review engagement and act as primary liaison with auditors, bankers, and tax advisors.

Manufacturing & Cost Accounting

  • Maintain and improve standard costing, inventory valuation, WIP tracking, and margin analysis across machining and processing operations.
  • Analyze job/project profitability, scrap, labour and overhead absorption, and support pricing and quoting decisions with sound cost data.
  • Partner with operations on capital expenditure evaluation, equipment justification, and government funding/SR&ED claim support.

Planning, Cash & Compliance

  • Lead budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management, including preparation of a weekly rolling 13-week cash flow forecast and working capital optimization.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and provincial tax filings (GST/HST/QST, payroll remittances, corporate tax instalments) in both Ontario and Quebec.
  • Strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, and financial processes; drive ERP/system improvements and reporting automation.

Leadership & Business Partnership

  • Supervise and mentor finance/accounting staff as required across the two sites.
  • Build strong interdepartmental relationships and serve as a trusted business partner to plant management, program managers, and department heads.
  • Support customer and industry requirements common to aerospace (e.g., cost disclosures, contract reporting, AS9100 environment).
  • Assist the CFO in all aspects of the finance mandate, including strategic initiatives, banking and treasury matters, integration projects, and board/ownership reporting, with a clear runway toward the CFO Canada role.

Qualifications

Required

  • CPA designation
  • Bilingual — fluent in both English and French (spoken and written) — to work effectively with the Montreal operation.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, including experience in a manufacturing environment (aerospace, automotive, or industrial preferred).
  • Strong technical knowledge of full-cycle accounting, cost accounting, and financial reporting under both ASPE and IFRS.
  • Working knowledge of IFRS 15 (revenue recognition, including long-term/contract manufacturing arrangements) and IFRS 16 (lease accounting) is required.
  • Demonstrated hands-on approach — comfortable doing the work in a lean finance team, not just directing it.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a proven ability to build relationships across departments and influence without authority.
  • Driven, ambitious, and self-directed, with clear aspirations toward a senior finance leadership (CFO) role.
  • Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems and advanced Excel skills; experience with JobBoss and QuickBooks is an asset, and the candidate will play a key role in an eventual conversion to SAP.
  • Ability to travel periodically to Montreal (approximately monthly).

Strongly Preferred

  • Experience with multi-entity/intercompany accounting and Quebec-specific compliance (QST, Revenu Québec payroll).
  • Exposure to aerospace industry requirements, government contracting, or AS9100-certified environments.
  • Experience with SR&ED claims and government funding programs.
