Senior Hardware Engineer

On behalf of a client company operating in the electronics sector, Labora Partners is looking for a "Senior Hardware Engineer" to join the Research & Development team.

Reporting to the Hardware Team Leader, the successful candidate will be responsible for the design, development and testing of the company's product hardware, supporting the entire lifecycle, from planning through to production roll-out.

Location: Lugano

Contract type: Permanent, with seniority and package commensurate with experience.

Role and key responsibilities:

  • Hardware design: design of mixed-signal, RF and digital boards, from low-level design derived from user requirements through to schematic, layout, sampling, production and related support equipment. Hands-on development with simulation tools for PCB development and within board mass-production processes. Verifying and demonstrating the design's compliance with specifications.
  • Change Requests: managing modifications to existing designs, second sources, alternative components, product improvements and changes to increase production yield and quality.
  • Quality: following the company's quality processes for traceability, versioning, validation evidence and up-to-date technical documentation, in close alignment with production; reviewing Control Plans for continuous improvement.
  • Customer Support: detailed failure analysis of field returns to support product improvement.
  • Production Support: design of production equipment related to PCBA validation, at suppliers or at incoming inspection.

More broadly, the role will support PCBA integration with the mechanical design, debugging of prototypes and pre-series, the development of test systems, industrialization and the handling of day-to-day manufacturing issues, as well as formal documentation (product specifications, test plans/reports, quality reporting) and the search for new technological solutions within the R&D team.

Requirements:

  • At least 3 years of experience within R&D departments.
  • Proven experience in analog and digital electronic design.
  • Knowledge of ARM-based MCUs is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of firmware (FW) and software (SW) programming is considered an asset.
  • Team-oriented approach, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally.
