THE ROLE

You will be working in a multicultural and multi-disciplinary group, where junior and senior scientists collaborate, each with their expertise, to carry out a scientific activity with a shared research goal.

The Neurodevelopmental Disorders Research Unit at Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia - IIT (https://www.iit.it/research/lines/neurodevelopmental-disorders ), led by Dr. Michael Lombardo, is looking for 1 talented Research Assistant as part of ongoing research understanding multilevel heterogeneity in the autisms.

The selected candidate will work in the framework of the ERC-funded project “Disability versus Difference over Development in the Autisms” (AUTISMS-3D), Grant Agreement 101087263.

The research program aims to identify stratification markers that delineate important distinctions within the population of individuals with autism. The work will require successful candidate to aid other lab personnel (PhD students, Post-docs, PI) in actions relevant to the research program’s aims. The laboratory uses multidisciplinary methods such as observation behavioral methods, neuropsychological testing, eye tracking, EEG, MRI, and fMRI.

Successful candidate will work with the PI, other lab members, and international collaborators on a variety of research-focused actions focused on identifying important subtypes of patients with ASD. The main tasks are, but not limited to, recruitment of participants for new scientific studies, collection of research data in experiments that include eye tracking, EEG and fMRI methodologies.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Possession of a Bachelors or Masters in a discipline related to the work we do in the lab (e.g., psychology, psychiatry, neuroscience, cognitive science, linguistics);
  • Good command of both Italian and English languages and good organizational skills;
  • Prior research experience working with children and/or adults with neurodevelopmental disorders.

ADDITIONAL SKILLS

  • Computational skills (e.g. statistics, coding skills in MATLAB, R, Python);
  • High motivation and ability to work both independently and as part of a team;
  • Knowledge of the field of autism and neurodevelopmental disorders;
  • Motivation to pursue a career in academic research;
  • Capacity to work autonomously and collaboratively in a highly interdisciplinary environment;
  • Possess Analytical Reasoning skills and a growth mindset.

  • Competitive salary for international standards;
