THE ROLE

The Nanochemistry Research Unit of IIT invites applications for a postdoctoral position. The successful candidate will primarily work on the simulation of bands alignment in semiconductor heterostructures within the framework of the ERC grant NEHA (https://www.iit.it/erc-grant-holder/-/people/liberato-manna ). Additional side projects may be assigned in line with the group’s ongoing research activities.

The research group, led by Prof. Liberato Manna, focuses on the synthesis, experimental characterization, and technological applications of quantum dots and other optoelectronic materials. This position offers an exciting opportunity to conduct computational studies in close collaboration with experimentalists. Guidance and supervision on computational matters will be provided by Dr. Gabriele Saleh.

This open position is financed by European Union within the project NEHA (Nanoscale Epitaxial Heterostructures Involving Metal Halides) - Grant Agreement n° 101095974 - CUP J53C23001600006

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • A PhD in chemistry, materials science, physics, or a related field. Candidates who are about to complete their PhD may also apply.
  • Experience with density functional theory (DFT) simulations. Alternatively, expertise in other atomistic simulations (e.g., alternative ab initio methods or force-field-based approaches) will be considered positively.
  • Strong understanding of solid-state physics and chemistry (reciprocal space, band structure, phonons, etc.).
  • A collaborative mindset, particularly in working with experimentalists. This also includes a solid knowledge of statistical thermodynamics.
  • Experience or knowledge in simulations of electronic excitations and luminescence, such as time-dependent DFT (TDDFT).
  • Good command of spoken and written English.

ADDITIONAL SKILLS

  • Familiarity with material interfaces and heterostructure simulations
  • Ability to work in a challenging and international environment
  • Capacity to work autonomously and collaboratively in a highly interdisciplinary environment
  • Possess Analytical Reasoning skills and a growth mindset
