Maccaferri, a leading civil engineering firm specializing in innovative infrastructure projects, is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will manage financial operations, ensure accurate reporting, and provide strategic financial insights to support business growth. Key Responsibilities

  • Financial Operations & Compliance
    • Oversee daily accounting operations, ensuring accuracy and adherence to financial regulations and company policies.
    • Assist in tax return preparation and ensure timely compliance with tax regulations.
    • Develop and implement internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure financial integrity.
  • Month-End & Year-End Closing
    • Lead closing processes, reconcile account balances, and review general ledger activity for accurate financial reporting.
    • Perform budget vs. actual variance analysis and provide insights for cost control and forecasting.
    • Collaborate with external auditors during annual audits, providing necessary documentation and addressing discrepancies.
  • Cash Flow & Treasury Management
    • Assist with daily, weekly, and monthly management of bank transactions, cash flow reporting, and customer payments.
    • Maintain and monitor cash flow to ensure sufficient funds for ongoing projects and operational expenses.
  • Project Cost Accounting
    • Coordinate with project managers and engineers to properly account for project costs, including labor, materials, and subcontractor expenses.
    • Manage inventory counts and resolve discrepancies between actual and book inventory.
  • Process Improvement & Collaboration
    • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
    • Work closely with the Executive Team and Operational Leaders on various projects.
    • Identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiencies.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field (CPA preferred but not required).
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in corporate or public accounting.
  • Experience with GST/HST tax filings and Canadian regulatory compliance.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, including accruals.
  • Proficiency in Excel (VLOOKUPs, pivot tables) for data reconciliation and analysis.
  • Experience with SAP accounting software is a plus but not required.
