Maccaferri, a leading civil engineering firm specializing in innovative infrastructure projects, is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Controller to oversee financial operations, ensure accurate reporting, and maintain compliance with accounting standards. This role involves managing accounting functions such as budgeting, forecasting, and month-end closing to support business decision-making and strategic goals. The Controller will supervise the accounting team, prepare financial statements, monitor cash flow, and ensure adherence to tax regulations and corporate policies. Additionally, this role will collaborate with senior leadership to streamline financial processes and enhance operational efficiency. Key Responsibilities 

  • Financial Operations & Compliance 

  • Oversee accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger, ensuring accuracy and regulatory compliance. 

  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal tax regulations, audits, and financial reporting requirements. 

  • Develop and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure financial integrity. 

  • Month-End & Year-End Closing 

  • Manage the close process, reconcile account balances, and review general ledger activity for timely financial reporting. 

  • Coordinate external audits, liaise with auditors, and ensure accurate and timely audits. 

  • Lead the budgeting and forecasting process, collaborating with department heads to set financial goals and track performance. 

  • Cash Flow & Treasury Management 

  • Assist in managing daily, weekly, and monthly bank transactions, cash flow reporting, and customer payments. 

  • Maintain and monitor cash flow to ensure sufficient funds for ongoing projects and operational expenses. 

  • Project Cost Accounting 

  • Work with project managers and engineers to properly account for project costs, including labor, materials, and subcontractor expenses. 

  • Perform variance analysis and provide insights for cost control, financial forecasting, and corrective actions. 

  • Manage inventory counts and resolve discrepancies between actual and book inventory. 

  • Leadership & Process Improvement 

  • Supervise, train, and develop accounting team members to ensure high performance and skill development. 

  • Evaluate best practices and identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiencies. 

  • Collaborate with the Executive Team and Operational Leaders on various projects as needed. 

 

Education & Experience 

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field (CPA preferred but not required). 

  • Minimum 7+ years of experience in corporate or public accounting. 

  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP and IFRS accounting standards. 

  • Experience with tax regulations and tax preparation. 

  • Proficiency in Excel (VLOOKUPs, pivot tables) for financial analysis and reconciliation. 

  • Experience with SAP accounting software is a plus but not required. 

  • Proven leadership skills with experience in supervising and coaching teams.
