Commitment & contract: Fellow (Collaboration Contract)

WHO WE ARE

At IIT we work enthusiastically to develop human-centered Science and Technology to tackle some of the most pressing societal challenges of our times and transfer these technologies to the production system and society. Our Genoa headquarter is strictly inter-connected with our 11 centres around Italy and two outer-stations based in the US for a truly interdisciplinary experience.

YOUR TEAM

You’d be working in a multicultural and multi-disciplinary group, where computational scientists (Machine Learning, Computer Vision, image processing, big data and high performance computing), material engineers, chemists, physicists, and archaeologists collaborate, each with their own expertise, to carry out common research.

The Center for Cultural Heritage Technology (CCHT) in Venice is coordinated by Arianna Traviglia, who has extensive experience in mediating the inclusion of technology within the study and management of cultural heritage and in cultural landscape management. CCHT has extensive collaborations with other Research Lines of IIT focused on AI and computer vision and has full access to the powerful IIT’s HPC infrastructure (‘Franklin’) with 256 GPU-nodes.

Research at CCHT focuses on promoting cutting-edge technologies and approaches for analysis and preservation of Cultural Heritage. This includes ML/CV-based approaches to automatically transcribe ancient texts, discover and monitor archaeological sites on satellite imagery, and digitize cultural heritage objects using automated approaches.

At the Centre, you will be working in the framework of a prestigious project funded by the European Commission, the ‘Bauhaus of the SeaS’ project. As a team member, your main responsibilities will be to consolidate CCHT expertise in the development of Digital Twins for modeling the impact of Climate Change on Cultural Heritage monuments and sites located in coastal areas. You will also address the interdependencies and challenges across different environments. This will involve working with a broad range of experts to define how Digital Twins can support the safeguarding of coastal Cultural Heritage.
