Our approach integrates cutting-edge tools and technology, empowering researchers to push the limits of knowledge and innovation. With us, your curiosity will know no bounds.

We are dedicated to providing equal employment opportunities and fostering diversity in all its forms, creating an inclusive environment. We value the unique experiences, knowledge, backgrounds, cultures, and perspectives of our people. By embracing diversity, we believe science can achieve its fullest potential.

THE ROLE

You will be working across two multicultural and multi-disciplinary groups, where people with different backgrounds collaborate, each with their own expertise, to develop technologies for a better understanding of the brain and apply such knowledge to support people with robots.

The EDPR Research line is coordinated by Chiara Bartolozzi, who has extensive experience in neuromorphic engineering, and event-driven sensing and perception. The CTNSC Unit is coordinated by Prof. Luciano Fadiga, who is an expert in neuroscience. The current composition of the groups consists of people from 6 different countries on 3 different continents.

We are looking for a talented individual interested in developing neuromorphic technologies and deep learning supporting Human-Robot Interaction through the measurements of human micromovements. Microscopic human movement features play a key role in implicit behavioral coordination, but there’s a lack of available non-intrusive, marker-less technology to monitor them accurately. We will develop a low latency vision system for tracking and analyzing human micromovements, exploiting the extremely high temporal resolution of event-cameras.
The position is part of the Brain and Machines Flagship project of IIT, where different research lines contribute to study the brain and robotics to develop new technologies for assisting humans. Within this flagship, this project leverages on the expertise of the groups involved in movement-related neuroscience and low-latency, efficient event-driven vision.

Within the team, your main responsibilities will be:

  • Multisensory system setup and dataset acquisition with subjects performing different actions;
  • Develop, train, and test neural networks for micromovement detection, classification and tracking;
  • Improve network accuracy and implement online, low-latency inference.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • A MSc or BSc in computer science, engineering, robotics, or related fields
  • Proficiency in C++, Python
  • Good knowledge in Deep Learning
  • Good spoken and written English

ADDITIONAL SKILLS

  • Background in neuromorphic technology, event-driven sensing
  • Good communication skills
  • Strong problem-solving attitude
  • High motivation to learn
  • Spirit of innovation and creativity
  • Adeptness at time and priority management
  • Ability to work in a challenging and international environment
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a highly interdisciplinary environment
  • Possess analytical reasoning skills and a growth mindset

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

  • A yearly gross salary ranging between 28k and 32k, which may include a bonus option depending on your role and contract
  • Private health care coverage depending on your role and contract
  • Two days of teleworking per week and flexible working hours are available for certain roles
  • Candidate holding a bachelor’s or master’s degree who have not been resident in Italy in the last 3 years and move back to Italy to start any work activity, and meet specific requirements, can benefit from a 50% deduction on their income.

Please submit your application using the online form and including a detailed CV and cover letter.
