THE ROLE

You will be working in a multicultural and multi-disciplinary group, where junior and senior scientists collaborate, each with their expertise, to carry out a scientific activity with a shared research goal.

The “3D Chromatin Conformation and RNA Genomics Research Unit is coordinated by Dr. Dafne Campigli Di Giammartino and aims at understanding how non-coding elements (such as enhancers and non-coding RNAs) and their epigenetic/epitranscriptomic modifications regulate 3D genome architecture and gene expression. To address this question, we use cutting-edge chromatin conformation assays (e.g.Hi-C, Hi-ChIP etc) in conjunction with other -omics techniques (e.g. ChIPseq, RNA-seq etc.) and in combination with CRISPR-based genetic and epigenetic engineering tools in mouse stem cells as well as in human tumor stem cells.

Within the research team, your main responsibilities will be:

  • Using advanced molecular biology techniques for the manipulation of RNA, DNA and proteins in the area of 3D chromatin conformation, stem cells and non-coding RNAs
  • Collaborating with other lab members to implement new technologies based on CRISPR/Cas platforms and biochemical assays for the characterization of the 3D chromatin architecture
  • Supervising and mentoring junior members of the team
  • Recording experimental data performed in the laboratory in both paper and electronic format (e.g. benchling)
  • Writing research and reviewing articles as well as assisting in generating preliminary data and figures for grant proposals

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • PhD in Cellular/Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or similar disciplines
  • Extensive experience in a molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics or cell biology laboratory
  • Previous experience in producing NGS data such as ChIP-seq, RNA-seq, ATAC-seq etc
  • Experience with cell culture maintenance and complementary techniques (e.g. FACS)
  • Familiarity with CRISPR technologies
  • Good publication record
  • Strong command of spoken and written English
  •  Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a highly interdisciplinary environment

ADDITIONAL SKILLS

  • Experience in 3D chromatin conformation assays (e.g. Hi-C, Hi-ChIP etc)
  • Previous research experience in the RNA field
  • Previous research experience in the stem cells field
  • Ability to perform genomic and epigenomic editing in stem cells using CRISPR-(d)Cas technologies

COMPENSATION PACKAGE

  • A yearly gross salary ranging between 40K  and 50K, depending on the candidate qualifications, which may include a bonus option depending on your role and contract
  • Private health care coverage
  • Flexible working time
  • Wide range of staff discounts
  • Candidates from abroad or Italian citizens who have carried scientific research activity permanently abroad and meet specific requirements, may be entitled to a deduction from taxable income of up to 90% from 6 to 13 years.
