Saipem S.p.A.

Flow Assurance Engineer - ENCAR - Fano

JOB TITLE: Flow Assurance Engineer

BUSINESS LINE: Energy Carriers

DEPARTMENT/FUNCTION: Fano Process, Loss Prevention and Environment Department

Saipem is a global leader in the engineering and construction of major projects for the energy and infrastructure sectors, both offshore and onshore. Saipem is “One Company” organized into five business lines - Asset Based Services, Energy Carriers, Offshore Wind, Sustainable Infrastructures, Robotics & Industrialized Solutions. The company has 8 fabrication yards and an offshore fleet of 23 construction vessels (of which 21 owned and 2 owned by third parties and managed by Saipem) and 15 drilling rigs, of which 8 owned. Always oriented towards technological innovation, the company’s purpose is “Engineering for a sustainable future”. As such Saipem is committed to supporting its clients on the energy transition pathway towards Net Zero, with increasingly digital means, technologies and processes geared for environmental sustainability. Listed on the Milan Stock Exchange, it is present in more than 50 countries around the world and employs about 30,000 people of over 120 nationalities.

Always committed to promoting and supporting the values of diversity and inclusion, Saipem confirms its commitment to valuing differences as a source of mutual enrichment. To this end, it promotes and encourages conditions that allow the removal of every obstacle that limits the full expression of people and their complete development within the organization. It protects and guarantees work conditions that respect individual dignity, while promoting a collaborative, harmonious, fair and supportive work environment.

As Flow Assurance Engineer, you will join our Department/Function Fano Process, Loss Prevention and Environment Department, in the business line Energy Carriers; the main duties are:

  • The Flow Assurance Engineer is responsible for the design of oil and gas production systems and assessment of their operability, including wells, flow lines and risers, production and injection facilities, and pipelines.
  • The Flow Assurance Engineer will use analytical and computational tools to predict the transient multiphase flow and thermal behavior of the production system and develops and documents functional requirements and operational strategies to prevent, mitigate, and remediate vulnerabilities associated with gas hydrate formation, wax deposition, and other solids.

The following main activities shall be carried out:

  • 1 - Fluid characterization using a thermodynamic simulator to model the PVT behavior of produced fluids.
  • 2 - Steady-state, single-phase flow modeling to size gas, oil and/or water export pipelines and injection systems.
  • 3 - Steady-state, multiphase fluid modeling to design production systems, including functional requirements for artificial lift and/or thermal insulation.
  • 4 – Dynamic single-phase flow modeling of gas, oil and water pipelines to verify their sizing during transient conditions with focus on critical overpressuring scenarios and different operability conditions.
  • 5 - Transient, multiphase fluid modeling to assess thermal and hydraulic transients during production rate changes, turndown, startup, shutdown, and blow-down; including flow line and trunkline slugging, cool-down, and warm-up.
  • 6 – Perform flow assurance evaluations of critical phenomena as solid formation, deposition, and/or blockage behavior for hydrates, sand, wax, scale, asphaltenes, and other solids. The basis of those evaluation are modeling and/or laboratory analyses.
  • 7 – Assessment of erosion and ductile fracture behaviour to guide proper material selection, conducted in collaboration with Materials Engineers.
  • 8 – Perform piping vibration analysis to assess possible issues related to flow induced pulsations, acoustic disturbances and turbulence
  • 9 – Perform transmission pipeline systems pre-feasibility studies based on technical-economical optimization analysis
  • 10 – Perform special process studies related to critical heat transfer scenarios (impact of jet fires on piping and vessels, shell and tube heat exchangers tube rupture)
