For a multinational company operating in packaging sector, we are looking for a


He/She will ensure that programs, policies and procedures as well as employee and supervisor handbooks support the overall business objectives in the areas of EHSS, talent acquisition, employee relations and engagement, talent management, education, training and development, workers compensation, compensation and benefits as well as HR administration. This role will support two plants (in Italy and Slovakia).

The HR Manager will be responsible for ensuring that ISO45001 and ISO14001 EHS standards is deployed across both manufacturing facilities, working in partnership with the General Manager for both locations and Plant Managers in both locations, as well as line management in order to create a positive employee relations environment.

Main activities and responsibilities:

  • Builds excellent working relationships with all other departments.
  • Creates an HR function that provides tools and resources so that employees do not need to have a lot of HR face time. 
  • Is responsible and accountable for EHSS in collaboration with Plant Management and other leadership members and maintains good records, drives the deployment of ISO18001 into the plant and captures metrics to drive towards company aspiration of zero accidents/risk.
  • Is responsible for the whole talent acquisition process.
  • Being responsible for HR aspects of manufacturing quality systems and ensuring appropriate training is conducted and documented in accordance with those standards.
  • Being a coach to line management on managing and leading employees and providing a toolbox that line management can use.
  • Develop standard operating procedures for the HR department and for line management to effectively manage employees.  Providing a line management handbook for the management of employees.
  • Developing policies that drive efficiency, employee engagement and improved performance.
  • Working with Finance to prepare the HR budget for the business.
  • Creating education, training and development programmes for the business at all levels.
  • Ensures that company is complying with local, state and federal labour regulations.
  • Will be the resident expert in Italian and Slovakian labour law.
  • Ensuring that the learning from employment legal claims and workers compensation claims are reviewed and incorporated into improved methods of working (policies/procedures/handbooks/WI’s) across the business to reduce future risk.
  • Reducing the number of legal and workers compensation claims by creating an environment where issues are reduced and we have positive employee relations.
  • Ensuring the performance management process (Cornerstone) is deployed, performance is enhanced through a robust use of the system, managers are trained in providing constructive feedback and development plans and succession planning is undertaken.
  • Manage and deploy the Global On-Boarding programme and Functional specific on boarding through the Company Academy, maintaining appropriate records for each employee.
  • Will be able to operate not only in a manufacturing environment but has a proven track record of being able to work with the corporate office.
  • Coach and trains line managers on how to deal with employee relations situations and application of grievance, discipline, attendance programmes etc., identifies skills gaps and develops a plan to address them and ensures compliance with the affirmative action plan.
  • Manages company-wide employee communications.
  • Support and coordinates employee relations and change management activities.


  • Bachelor’s degree in related field.
  • 5 + years of HR Management within a manufacturing environment in Italy.
  • HR certification.
  • Strong knowledge of Italian labour law (knowledge of Slovakian labour law will be a plus).
  • Proven people management skills and ability to develop a team.
  • Excellent English and Italian verbal and written communication skills.
  • Can manage both hourly and salaried related HR issues and work with the Company Corporate office on HR policy/approvals.
  • Recruiting experience required.
  • Interpersonal savvy with strong listening skills, ability to manage own time, organize and prioritize numerous activities, results driven, tenacious and with a strong work ethic.
  • Excellent communicator internally and with third parties, with the ability to keep his/her head in a crisis.
  • Availability to travel (regular travel to the Slovakia facility).
